What? Seriously? This requires a howto? Well apparently it does for me. I've tried playing 1080p files on my laptop, on my MacMini and my desktop PC. Every time I try I get skips and lags and shutters and bleh. It makes me sad. I have a shinny 1080p tv, and I want to see 1080p movies on it.
I donno, but once I figure it out I'm putting the details here. I read in a few forums that this works in VLC. I'm trying it soon
Using the latest stable build of VLC, I opened up the Preferences menu and made sure Advanced was selected. Then I headed to Inputs/Codecs > Other codecs > FFMpeg, selected “Skip the loop filter for H.264 decoding” and chose “All”. This immediately improved playback exponentially and I’m now enjoying 1080p playback without a glitch.
